Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Geeked-Out Games LLC ("we," "us," "our") collects when you use the Geeked-Out Basketball website, game, and related services (together, the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
If you have any questions or requests regarding your information, contact us at jamie@geekedoutgames.com.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide to us:
- Account information. When you create an account: your email address, username, and password (stored in hashed form — we cannot see your password).
- Purchase information. If you make a purchase, our payment processor collects your payment details. We never receive or store your full card number or banking details. We receive confirmation of your purchase, the product purchased, and limited billing information (such as the last four digits of your card and your billing country) needed to manage your entitlements and provide support.
- Content you submit. Feedback, survey responses, support emails, and — if you use content-creation features — content you upload, such as custom team names, logos, and images.
- Communications. Emails you send us, and your preferences regarding emails we send you.
Information collected automatically:
- Gameplay data. Your in-game activity — franchises, rosters, game results, coaching decisions, progress, and settings — which is necessary to operate the game and save your progress.
- Usage and analytics data. How you interact with the Service (pages viewed, features used, session length, approximate location derived from IP, device and browser type), collected through Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager.
- Error and diagnostic data. If something breaks, our error-reporting tool (Sentry) collects technical information about the error, which may include your IP address, browser information, and what you were doing in the Service when the error occurred.
- Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies and local storage to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and support the analytics described above. Your browser settings allow you to limit or block cookies; parts of the Service (such as staying logged in) may not work without them.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including saving your game progress;
- Process purchases and manage the products, subscriptions, and features you're entitled to;
- Provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- Understand how the Service is used so we can improve it;
- Detect, investigate, and fix bugs, errors, and abuse;
- Send service communications (such as account, purchase, or security notices) and, where permitted, product updates and news — you can opt out of non-essential emails at any time via the unsubscribe link or by contacting us;
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We also do not share it with third parties for their own advertising purposes.
3. Who We Share Information With
We share information only with service providers who help us operate the Service, and only what they need to do their jobs:
- Payment processors (such as Stripe or Paddle) — to process purchases, subscriptions, and refunds. Their handling of your payment data is governed by their own privacy policies.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers (such as Netlify, Railway, MongoDB Atlas, and Cloudflare) — to host the website, game servers, databases, and images.
- Analytics providers (Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager) — to help us understand Service usage.
- Error monitoring (Sentry) — to help us find and fix problems.
- Email delivery providers — to send account and service emails.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or others, or in connection with a business transaction such as a merger or acquisition (in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information until you're told otherwise).
Public information: Your username and certain gameplay results (such as leaderboard standings, rankings, and community/franchise records) may be visible to other users as part of the Service's community features. Don't use personal information you wish to keep private as your username.
4. Your Choices and Rights
- Access, correction, deletion. You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated personal data by emailing jamie@geekedoutgames.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. Note that deleting your account deletes your saved game data and cannot be undone, and that we may retain limited records where required by law (for example, purchase records for tax purposes).
- Email opt-out. You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in those emails or by contacting us.
- Cookies/analytics. You can limit cookies via your browser settings and opt out of Google Analytics using Google's opt-out tools.
- State and regional rights. Depending on where you live (for example, California, other U.S. states with privacy laws, the EU/EEA, or the UK), you may have additional rights, including the right to know, delete, correct, or port your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. You can exercise any of these by emailing us. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, our legal bases for processing are: performance of our contract with you (operating the game and your account), our legitimate interests (improving and securing the Service), and your consent where required (non-essential communications).
5. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, do not create an account or submit any personal information. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at jamie@geekedoutgames.com.
6. Data Security and Retention
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including password hashing, encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Gameplay and account data are deleted when your account is deleted, subject to the limited legal retention noted above.
7. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you use it from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by posting the updated policy with a new effective date and, where appropriate, by email or in-Service notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
